Note: Permit holder’s name must match the name on the vessels’ ownership/charter documents.
If you do not have a boat at the time of application, describe what type/size of boat you are planning on chartering or buying.
Mooring Permit Fees are based on the size of the boat using the mooring. Commercial moorings and club moorings are based on the maximum size of the vessel potentially using the mooring (up to 50') and ground tackle will be required accordingly. Wait List annual fee is $10.
Mooring Permits are provided in accordance with Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection and are for the calendar year. Moorings in the main Anchorage areas in the River off the village are required to be vacated between Dec 1 and Apr 1 for overall safety due to the ice and flotsam flow typical during this period. Provisions for "winter sticks" and dropping tackle are available providing the Harbor Master provides his approval.
Ground tackle must be available for inspection on or before April 1.
Placement of the mooring ground tackle may only be done by an approved provider -- check with the Harbor Master prior to contracting.
The EHMC offers a "sabbatical year" one time to holders of mooring permits and those on the Wait List whose "time" has come and wish to take a year off. Consult with the Harbor Master.
Communication is extremely important. Communicate with the Harbor Master concerning all activity on your mooring -- you will be away -- you will be late arriving -- you are changing boats -- etc.
You will not be allowed to submit your application unless the required documentation is provided, the expiration dates are current, and payment is made.
Over night rafting is not allowed on moorings in Essex. "Loaning" or "Guesting" your mooring is not allowed -- any questions, ask the Harbor Master.
